THE KINDERGARTEN

Goals

         The Little Bamboo Foundation, Inc. kindergarten gives the children of the Cebu seaport slums the opportunity to prepare for a successful integration into the public school system (starting elementary school), through:

• adapted environment and curriculums,

• activities aiming at the psychological and physical development if the children,

• the implication of the parents (parent-teacher meetings, participation in certain class activities).
   

The workings

        The average number of children is 25 per class. Our beneficiaries stem from greatly financially challenged families who are motivated by our educational project. Each child has a school file, updated every term. Each semester, they must undergo a medical checkup.

        All our Filipino teachers hold a diploma in education and follow a training program (child psychology for example).

        At the beginning of the year, families vote to determine the amount of the daily tuition. Indeed, this contribution allows parents to feel responsible; it contributes, for example, to a better attendance rate. Families who are unable to pay tuition fees can pay in kind (chores in the school).
